I took this photo on the Staten Island Ferry when I was in New York last month. We had eaten at the famous Serendipity 3 restaurant in Manhattan the night before and I had been thinking about what a lovely word that is. I wanted to work it into a poem. Well, according to the dictionary, serendipity means "an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident", and I can't think of a better case of this that when I happened to notice this sweet couple just outside the window of the ferry boat. In their own way, these strangers (whose faces I never did see) did indeed write this poem for me as they stood there looking out at the water. It was as if they were the only two people on that boat. I was a witness to a beautiful moment, full of love...and I stumbled upon the scene by accident. If that's not serendipity for a poet, then what is??? :)
I have had a passion for the written word, especially poetry, from an early age. I am first and foremost a child of God-a thankful recipient of His grace. I am also a mother, a teacher, a singer, and an overall music lover. I call the beautiful southern United States home, and growing up and raising my family here has shaped who I am in many ways. I believe that life- with its various emotions, experiences, trials, and joys-is a gift from my Heavenly Father. As a poet, I hope that my work expresses this.
"My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him." -Psalm 62:1
Some of my poetry has been published in the online journals Simply Haiku and Notes from the Gean.
