their faces
greet me at the classroom door
like sun through the clouds-
hoping they can't see
the rain in me

  1. I'm feeling better this afternoon, but this morning was rough. I was just feeling blue for some reason. Those are the days when being a teacher is difficult...the days when I have to hide those feelings and be what they need me to be. However, it's usually in doing just that-meeting their needs, that I find my sparkle again. :)

  3. But I often found they read us....even the smallest, i remember a five year old asking --"isn't your mood right today?" when i was telling then a story, :)

But then, a nice poem that conveys our need to cover as teachers, Kristin :)

  5. I work in special education. I can totally relate. I had a autistic girl in my class for 4 yrs who sensed evrytime something was not right with me. If i was upset she would be the same way all day. Well written Kristin. Hope you are feeling better.

  6. How lovely, you students love you, and you feel it, and you love them right back, I can see that easing soul pain :)

  7. I don't know a lot about tanka, but I love this little poem anyway. This inside-outside-reflection goes very deep.

    Best wishes
